On a sunny September day, Romania's National Energy System produced 5,774 MW, primarily from solar energy, which accounted for 58% of the total generation. Solar panels generated 3,339 MW, while other sources combined contributed less than 42%. Hydrocarbon sources followed with 1,152 MW, and coal provided 652 MW. Hydroelectric production was notably low despite a capacity of 6,400 MW, reflecting both market adaptation and low river flows. Biomass and battery storage contributed minimally, while nuclear energy recorded no output due to ongoing maintenance. The surplus solar energy led to net exports, but the inability to fully absorb this production domestically highlighted structural vulnerabilities in energy storage capacity.
