Sicily is facing severe wildfires fueled by extreme heat and strong winds, prompting evacuations and extensive firefighting efforts. Approximately 100 residents and 22 patients from a clinic have been evacuated due to ongoing fires. Around 6,000 personnel, including firefighters and civil protection members, are engaged in combating nearly 50 active fires. The situation is critical, exacerbated by high temperatures and dry soil conditions. No casualties have been reported so far, but the fires have disrupted water supply in several municipalities. Climate change is increasing drought frequency in the region, with a significant portion of Sicily at risk of desertification.
