The Romanian Senate's Defense Committee is discussing a bill that limits the terms of heads of intelligence services. The proposed law by USR states that the director of the Romanian Intelligence Service is appointed by a joint session of the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate, based on the President's proposal. The director serves a four-year term, renewable once, and must take an oath before Parliament. The bill also applies to other intelligence agencies, including SIE, STS, SPP, DGPI, and DGIA. Senator Nicoleta Pauliuc emphasized the need to distinguish between secret services and intelligence services within the national defense system.
