Florin Dănescu, head of the Romanian Banking Association, revealed that banks offered to help with the deficit by paying 1% of their turnover, but were later informed they would pay 2%, and then 4% under a new government. He expressed concerns about the rising deficit and suggested regular meetings to discuss the situation. Additionally, BCR's CEO, Sergiu Manea, stated that the turnover tax has outlived its usefulness and can be eliminated. The minimum turnover tax was introduced in 2024, initially set at 2% for banks, increasing to 4% by mid-2025, with plans to abolish it by 2027.
