Carsten Breuer, the head of Germany's defense, has been elected as the future president of NATO's Military Committee, starting in July 2027. He will serve a three-year term as the main military advisor to the alliance. Breuer was chosen by military leaders from NATO's 32 nations during a meeting in Copenhagen. His appointment coincides with NATO's strategic efforts to enhance deterrence against potential Russian aggression by 2029. German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius praised Breuer's strategic vision and his significant role in restructuring the Bundeswehr. Breuer, the highest-ranking military officer in Germany, has been the inspector general of the Bundeswehr since March 2023 and previously led the Bundeswehr's Territorial Command.
