Frank Strada, head of Tennessee's Department of Corrections, resigned following a botched execution of Christa Pike, who survived lethal injection. Governor Bill Lee announced the resignation and an independent investigation into the incident. Pike, sentenced to death for murder, was hospitalized after the failed execution attempt. She was to be the first woman executed in Tennessee in over 200 years. Strada stated his resignation was in the best interest of Tennessee residents during the ongoing investigation.
