Christine Lagarde, President of the European Central Bank, warned that Europe might bear costs from the AI boom in the U.S. without reaping similar benefits. She highlighted that European households hold significant investments in major American tech companies. Lagarde noted that massive U.S. investments in AI, partly funded by debt, are influencing long-term bond yields, which in turn affect European borrowing costs. She questioned whether Europe would benefit from the growth associated with AI, emphasizing the need for strong AI models developed on European infrastructure. The disparity in AI model production between the U.S. and Europe was also pointed out.
