Northern Italy is facing its worst drought in years, severely impacting agriculture and water supply. The Piedmont region has declared a state of emergency due to dramatically low river levels and ongoing wildfires. The current drought is attributed to a combination of low precipitation, extreme temperatures, and reduced snow reserves. Water levels in lakes and rivers have significantly decreased, with some areas experiencing a 75% drop in river flow. This crisis directly affects over 70 localities relying on water from cisterns, while agricultural losses, particularly in corn, soy, and rice, have exceeded 30 million euros. The emergency declaration allows regional authorities to mobilize funds and implement exceptional measures to manage the situation.
