Starting October 1, 2026, Romania will implement a new toll system for trucks over 3.5 tons, charging per kilometer. The National Company for Road Infrastructure Administration (CNAIR) announced that the new electronic toll collection system, STRR, will be operational by August 31, 2026. The toll rates will depend on the vehicle's weight and emission class, with specific fees for different categories. For example, a truck weighing between 3.5-7.5 tons will incur fees ranging from 5,350 to 6,959 lei based on emission standards. TIRs over 12 tons will face higher charges, from 15,230 to 19,800 lei, depending on their emission class.
