Se schimbă harta lumii: De ce Africa apare mult mai mare în noua reprezentare susținută de ONU (VIDEO)

The UN General Assembly has adopted a resolution recommending the replacement of the Mercator projection with the Equal Earth projection, which accurately represents the size of continents. This decision, while not mandatory, aims to correct the distorted view of global geography, particularly regarding Africa's size. The resolution encourages states and organizations to adopt maps that reflect true proportions, promoting a more equitable representation. The US opposed the resolution, labeling it as ideologically driven, while Togo plans to update its geography textbooks to reflect the new projection. France has also announced a shift away from Mercator in its general representations.
