The rise in diesel prices has significantly impacted European drivers and transport companies, with additional costs amounting to billions since the onset of the Iran war. A report by Transport & Environment (T&E) highlights that diesel accounts for the majority of these increased expenses, costing EU drivers an average of 142 euros more. The report indicates that the EU has incurred around 53 billion euros in extra fuel costs, with diesel alone contributing 40 billion euros. The surge in prices is attributed to disruptions in oil production and exports, particularly from the Middle East and Russia. T&E suggests measures to reduce diesel demand, including remote work and improved public transport, while advocating for a shift towards electric vehicles to mitigate future price shocks.
