Starting in 2026, Croatia will implement a new electronic toll system for highways, eliminating traditional toll booths. The Free Flow system will allow vehicles to pass through toll points without stopping, with fees calculated automatically via license plate recognition or an electronic device. Two payment options will be available for cars and motorcycles, while trucks will require mandatory electronic devices. Each vehicle must be registered individually, and the full transition to the new system is expected by March 2027. This modernization aims to reduce wait times during tourist seasons and is funded partly by EU recovery funds.
