The Wall Street Journal reports that U.S. Ambassador Kimberly Guilfoyle pressured Bulgaria to purchase American liquefied natural gas through a Greek company. Guilfoyle's involvement included meetings with Bulgarian officials and promoting the 'Vertical Corridor' for gas supply. She was accompanied by lobbyist Christos Marafatsos from Aktor, a Greek construction firm collaborating with Greece's DEPA on LNG projects. Guilfoyle's recommendations were seen as reflecting U.S. government policy, and her travel in the Balkans aimed to strengthen energy ties in Southeast Europe.
