A former Swedish military consultant was sentenced for attempting to pass classified information to Russian intelligence. The 34-year-old, R.T., suffered from severe mental health issues and had worked for the Swedish army from 2018 to 2022. He was found guilty of trying to disclose secret information during a trip to Moscow in late 2025. R.T. had contacted Russian security services seeking protection and citizenship in exchange for documents. His trial lasted three days, mostly behind closed doors, and he denied the charges. Additionally, he founded a cybersecurity company in 2024, allegedly focused on offensive cyber operations. The Swedish Security Service, Säpo, continues to investigate his connections, viewing Russia as a primary threat to Sweden, which joined NATO in 2024.
