The Romanian new car market saw a significant decline in August 2026, with registrations dropping by 36.85% compared to the previous year. A total of 9,552 new cars were registered, including a 31% decrease in electrified vehicles and a 29% drop in fully electric cars. Dacia remained the leading brand, with the Logan model being the most registered. Overall, the market has contracted by 10.12% in the first eight months of 2026. Despite the August decline, electric vehicle registrations increased by 50% year-to-date. The late launch of the Rabla program on August 25 may have influenced the market, but the overall trend shows a significant preference for second-hand cars, which outnumber new registrations by more than two to one.
