Romania's budget deficit decreased to 2% of GDP in the first half of 2026, down from 3.64% in 2025, due to reduced spending and increased revenue collection. The nominal deficit fell by nearly 28.8 billion lei, totaling 41.03 billion lei. Finance Minister Alexandru Nazare emphasized that this reduction reflects successful fiscal consolidation efforts and the importance of maintaining investment ratings. Total revenues reached 342.52 billion lei, a 10.3% increase from the previous year, driven by higher tax revenues and European fund absorption.
