The medieval bell tower of Santa Caterina d'Alessandria is the only visible remnant of the submerged village of Curon, which was flooded in 1950 for a hydroelectric reservoir. The village, once a thriving agricultural community, was abandoned as its homes were demolished or submerged. The new village, Curon Venosta, was built at a higher elevation. The bell tower has become a symbol of the area, attracting tourists with its picturesque views and seasonal changes. A local legend claims that the bells can be heard from the depths of the lake, although they were removed before the flooding. The region is now a popular destination for outdoor activities, surrounded by stunning alpine scenery.
