Six butchers in France have been charged following a wave of E. coli infections that affected 32 people, resulting in the death of an 11-year-old girl. The investigation aims to trace the contaminated meat, which is linked to a farm near Saint-Quentin. Initially, ten butchers were detained, with six later charged for various offenses, including manslaughter and illegal slaughtering. They are under judicial control and prohibited from working in butchery, except in commercial roles without handling unpackaged meat. The outbreak began in June 2025, leading to hospitalizations, particularly among children, and prompted the closure of several butcheries. The case has been transferred to a specialized public health prosecutor due to its complexity and the number of victims.
