In recent weeks, Romania has experienced multiple drone incidents, with a significant increase in activity since the beginning of 2026. The Romanian Air Force has successfully intercepted several Russian drones, including a notable incident where an F-16 shot down a Shahed drone. The Ministry of National Defense reported that around 30 drones have entered Romanian airspace since the start of the Russian invasion in February 2022, with half of these incidents occurring this year. The government is seeking urgent anti-drone technology from European partners to address the rising threat.
