Negotiations are ongoing regarding the EU budget for 2028-2034, with Germany leading a group seeking reductions of hundreds of billions of euros from the European Commission's proposal of nearly €2 trillion. Some countries, including Italy and Poland, support increased spending on agriculture and less developed regions. The Irish presidency noted that many countries question the justification for increasing the number of employees, while the European Commission's proposal to hire 2,500 new officials has faced opposition. The negotiations aim to finalize a political agreement by the end of the year, with the new budget set to take effect on January 1, 2028.
