Șacalii s-au triplat în județul Sibiu: au ajuns din Pelișor și Merghindeal până la Sadu și Bradu

Sibiu County is experiencing a significant increase in predator populations, particularly jackals and foxes, with jackal numbers nearly tripling in recent years. Official data shows that the jackal population has surged from 170 to over 520 individuals, prompting environmental authorities to set record hunting quotas. While jackals are becoming more prevalent, local farmers report that bears still pose the greatest threat to livestock. The fox population has also risen, exceeding 2,300 individuals. To manage these growing populations, the local environmental agency has authorized the hunting of 392 jackals and 1,394 foxes for the upcoming season, reflecting a response to the demographic explosion of these predators. However, the exact ecological impact of this increase remains unclear due to a lack of specialized studies.
