On the night of July 25-26, 2026, Romania experienced three earthquakes in six hours, primarily in the Vrancea-Buzau region. The first quake, measuring 3.2 on the Richter scale, occurred just before midnight at a depth of 89 kilometers. The second quake, recorded at 2:35 AM, had a magnitude of 3.5 and was deeper at 147.7 kilometers. The last quake struck at 4:52 AM with a magnitude of 2.4 at a depth of 18.8 kilometers. Seismologist Gheorghe Mărmureanu predicts a major earthquake could occur in 2040, potentially exceeding 7 on the Richter scale.
