Russia has lowered its natural gas production and export forecasts due to deteriorating relations with the West and EU plans to halt Russian gas purchases. The production estimate for 2026 is now 683.1 billion cubic meters, slightly below previous forecasts but higher than 2025 levels. LNG exports are expected to rise, but at a slower pace than previously anticipated. Russian gas exports to Europe fell by 44% last year, reaching the lowest levels since the 1970s. The Kremlin claims Europe is harming itself by purchasing more expensive gas instead of cheaper Russian supplies. Moscow is prepared to resume gas supplies to Europe, including through the Nord Stream pipelines, despite recent explosions. These revised forecasts will inform Russia's federal budget updates through 2029.
