A Russian-associated hacker group utilized AI to automate a large-scale cyber espionage operation targeting Ukraine and European countries. The attackers employed the AI model Claude throughout various stages of their attacks, including target identification, phishing, credential theft, and data extraction. They specifically targeted the drone industry, stealing software tools for drone vision systems. The operation, which took place from December 2025 to August 2026, compromised over 20 organizations, including government and military entities. The hackers also exploited vulnerabilities in Wi-Fi networks and video surveillance platforms, demonstrating the growing role of AI in cyber warfare.
