Russia has threatened Lithuania with nuclear weapons as the Baltic state considers lifting its ban on nuclear arms, which would allow NATO to deploy forces there. Following Lithuania's move towards this decision, the Kremlin warned that the country would become a target for Russian nuclear arsenal. Russia has already stationed nuclear weapons in Belarus since 2023. Lithuanian parliament parties have tentatively agreed on constitutional amendments to facilitate this change, with a final decision expected by early 2027. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov emphasized that if nuclear weapons are positioned in Lithuania, the territory would be in the crosshairs of Russian nuclear arms. Lithuania, a strong supporter of Ukraine, borders the Russian exclave of Kaliningrad and Belarus, a close ally of Moscow.
