Russia has placed the local assets of German retailer Metro AG under temporary administration amid rising tensions with Germany over Ukraine. The assets were transferred to UK Torg RUS, a company established recently and owned by the head of Metro's Russian subsidiary. The decree follows a rare meeting between Russian and German foreign ministers, where accusations were exchanged regarding the Ukraine conflict. Metro AG stated it no longer has operational control over its Russian subsidiary and is assessing the implications of this decision. Many multinational companies have exited Russia since the invasion of Ukraine, but Metro has remained, citing responsibilities to its employees and customers. Other companies like Nestle and Auchan have also faced similar asset transfers to Russian firms.
