This decision comes as global fuel shortages and rising prices, particularly in the U.S., raise concerns ahead of midterm elections. The ban aims to mitigate price increases and supply shortages exacerbated by conflicts in Ukraine and Iran. Russia, a major diesel exporter, has previously restricted fuel exports to manage domestic prices and has already reduced its exports this summer. In 2022, Russia produced around 85 million tons of diesel, with half exported.
