The "Drone Engineering and Aeronautical Informatics" master's program at Politehnica University of Timișoara is Romania's first in this field, merging AI, informatics, and aerospace engineering. Dragoș Mărgineanțu, the program's initiator, emphasizes the rapid advancements in AI and the need for engineers to understand its applications and limitations. He believes that AI tools enhance engineers' capabilities rather than replace them. Mărgineanțu highlights the importance of system architecture in complex problem-solving and the high costs associated with advanced AI models. He also notes the growing interest in AI in universities, with competitive enrollment in related master's programs. Recently, he was awarded an honorary doctorate by UPT for his contributions to the field.
