In Romania, employees travel an average of 17 kilometers daily for their commute, the shortest distance among 16 European countries. However, they spend an average of 53 minutes commuting, exceeding their preferred time of 51 minutes. The study indicates that mobility issues contribute more to commuting challenges than distance. Approximately 63% of Romanian employees travel between 10 and 29 kilometers, with only 47% completing their commute in under 45 minutes. In Bucharest-Ilfov, the average commute is 16 kilometers but takes 73 minutes. Many employees express a desire to work from home to save time lost in commuting. Romania ranks second in commuting options availability, with 61% of respondents feeling they have sufficient choices.
