Romania will establish a permanent Consular Office in Belfast by the end of the year to serve over 20,000 Romanian citizens in Northern Ireland. The announcement was made by Foreign Minister Oana Țoiu during her visit to Belfast, where she confirmed that negotiations are complete and the necessary contracts and permits are in place. The office will alleviate the need for Romanians to travel to Edinburgh for consular services. Additionally, a team of consuls will return to Belfast for mobile services, aiming to provide over 1,000 consular services by 2026. Discussions with Northern Irish officials also focused on citizen safety and combating xenophobia.
