In the first eight months of 2026, Romanian retail sales dropped by 5% compared to the same period in 2025, affecting both food and non-food products. The most significant decline was seen in non-food items, which fell by 6.1%. Food, beverages, and tobacco purchases decreased by 4.2%, while fuel sales dropped by 3.6%. However, August 2026 showed a slight recovery, with a 0.5% increase in retail sales compared to July 2026 and a 0.9% increase compared to August 2025.
