Romanians are taking shorter vacations, with a notable decline in travel during the first half of 2026. Official statistics reveal a 4.1% drop in tourist arrivals compared to 2025, and a 6.7% decrease in total days spent by tourists. June also saw a 2.5% reduction in arrivals and a 5.7% drop in vacation days. Domestic tourists accounted for 78.6% of arrivals, with Bucharest, Brașov, and Constanța being the most popular destinations. Foreign tourists mainly came from Germany, Italy, and the USA. The occupancy rate in June was 26.7%, down 3.4 percentage points from the previous year.
