Romanians are facing increased energy prices starting in October due to high summer energy purchases and the closure of the Cernavodă nuclear plant. The largest electricity supplier has notified customers of price hikes, with rates rising from 1.11 to 1.19 lei/kWh and from 1.19 to 1.27 lei/kWh. This will lead to higher bills, with a 100 kWh consumption costing 127 lei and 300 kWh costing 381 lei. The interim Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan, indicated that while evening energy imports will affect prices, significant increases are not expected. A three-phase emergency plan has been announced for the Cernavodă plant due to low Danube water levels, which have forced the shutdown of two reactors that provided 20% of dispatchable energy.
