Romania boasts 17 protected designation of origin products in the EU, with Hungary at 90 and Bulgaria at 70. The latest addition is Buzau babic, recognized in June. EU regulations safeguard geographical indications, ensuring that only certified producers can use specific names. Romania's list includes notable items like Salami from Sibiu and Telemea from Sibiu. Currently, 13 more Romanian products are under review for EU protection, potentially increasing the total to 30. However, Romania still lags behind its neighbors in terms of recognized products.
