Romania's car market collapsed in July. New car registrations fell by 28%

In July, new car registrations in Romania dropped by 28% compared to 2025, while electric and plug-in hybrid vehicle demand surged. Despite the overall decline, electric cars saw a 57% increase and plug-in hybrids rose by 71%. The market is shifting towards electrified technologies, with electrified vehicles capturing a 60% market share. The top-selling electric models included the Tesla Model Y and Model 3, while the BYD Seal U DM-i led in plug-in hybrids. Light commercial vehicles faced a 33% drop, contrasting with a 6% rise in heavy commercial vehicles.
