Only one in five Romanians aged 25 to 64 holds a university degree, significantly lower than the OECD average of 43%. The report "Education at a Glance 2026" highlights the impact of education on employment, particularly for women, with 70% of those without a high school diploma not working. However, Romania excels in STEM graduates, with nearly 30% choosing these fields. Education funding remains a concern, with only 6.4% of state spending allocated to education, compared to the OECD average of 9.8%. Public education funding was 2.6% of GDP in 2023, similar to 2015 levels, while OECD countries averaged 4.2%. Additionally, 2.8% of teaching positions are unfilled, particularly in math and science subjects.
