Romania becomes the first EU country to offer compensation for carbon sequestration in aquaculture, with a maximum of €50,000 per applicant. This unique approach, developed with the support of research institutions, aims to promote environmental services in the aquaculture sector. The program, which opened for applications on July 24, 2023, has a budget of €14.285 million and is expected to benefit at least 300 aquaculture farms. Eligible farms must actively engage in aquaculture and meet specific production criteria. The compensation can also be used for future investments in modernization projects.
