România, prima ţară din UE care va acorda compensaţii pentru sechestrarea carbonului în acvacultură - Economica.net
Romania has become the first EU country to establish a compensation mechanism for carbon sequestration in aquaculture, recognized as unique by the European Commission. This initiative, supported by scientific research, aims to quantify carbon sequestration in aquaculture. The program, with a budget of 14.285 million euros, is open for project applications until September 2026, targeting at least 300 eligible aquaculture farms. Compensation rates vary based on farm type, and if demand exceeds the budget, compensation amounts will be adjusted proportionally. The scheme also encourages investment in modernization projects within the aquaculture sector.
