Romania Prepares for a new peak in electricity consumption. Bușoi: Import prices exceed €200 during peak hours

Romania's electricity supply is secure for now, but a heatwave will increase consumption and imports. State Secretary Cristian Bușoi highlighted the need for frequent Energy Command meetings and warned of potential challenges in September if generation capacities do not return. Current coal and gas generation is at maximum, but high temperatures will push demand above 7,000 MW. Bușoi emphasized the importance of average electricity prices and the need for certain generation units to remain operational post-August to avoid price pressures. Discussions at the European level will focus on maintaining interconnection capacity with Bulgaria and keeping the Turceni 5 unit active.
