Romania ranks 61st in the IMD World Competitiveness Center report for 2026, dropping 12 places from last year. Poland improved its position to 41st, while Bulgaria moved up to 56th. Hungary fell to 51st. The report emphasizes that economic competitiveness involves various political, social, and cultural dimensions, not just GDP or employment levels. It highlights the importance of public spending efficiency, investment in smart specialization, digital transformation support, and improvements in health and education systems.
