Romania ranks among EU countries with the highest percentage of employees working 40 to 44 hours weekly, according to Eurostat data. In 2025, 75.5% of Romanian workers were in this category, surpassed only by Bulgaria and Latvia. The average working hours in Romania is 40.1, the highest in the EU, while the overall EU average is 35.9 hours. Notably, Romanian employees work longer hours than independent workers, which is rare in the EU. Additionally, men and women in Romania have similar average working hours, with only a slight difference.
