Romania, alongside other countries, has requested a delay in implementing the ETS2 emissions trading system due to the current energy crisis. President Nicușor Dan emphasized the need for further discussions on the system and a postponed application date. The ETS2, which aims to tax carbon emissions from the automotive and residential heating sectors, was initially set to start in 2027 but has now been postponed to 2028. Dan highlighted the importance of addressing energy prices and integrating medium- to long-term measures into the budget for 2028-2034.
