România își reduce puternic deficitul bugetar la 3,6% în primul trimestru din 2026

Romania has significantly improved its budget deficit in Q1 2026, reducing it to 3.6% of GDP from 7.5% in Q4 2025, according to Eurostat. Despite this improvement, the deficit remains high compared to previous years and exceeds the EU average. The seasonal adjusted deficit decreased by 5.4 percentage points from Q1 2025 and 6.2 points from Q1 2024. Romania's deficit is among the highest in the EU, with only Bulgaria, Hungary, and Poland reporting larger deficits. Overall, the EU's budget deficit also decreased from 3.4% to 3.1% of GDP in the same period, supported by lower government spending and increased nominal GDP.
