Romania is developing a defense strategy against drones, investing €1 billion, while currently relying on F-16 pilots for protection. The Minister of Internal Affairs, Cătălin Predoiu, emphasized the need for legislation to address military drone threats. Recent incidents have highlighted the frequency of drone incursions near Romania's borders, with the Ministry of National Defense reporting multiple situations involving drone detection. The country is also acquiring advanced anti-drone systems, including contracts with Rheinmetall for various defense technologies. However, these systems will not be operational until next year, necessitating continued reliance on existing military capabilities and international support.
