In the first quarter of 2026, greenhouse gas emissions in the EU reached 837 million tons CO2 equivalent, marking a 0.3% increase from the previous quarter. Romania ranked third in the EU for significant emission reductions. While emissions rose in 20 member states, seven reported decreases, with Slovenia, Luxembourg, and Romania showing the most notable reductions. Estonia, Finland, and Bulgaria experienced the largest increases, largely due to construction and energy sector emissions. The EU's GDP remained stagnant during this period.
