România, codașa UE la competențe digitale. Nu se investește în educație media și în lupta cu manipularea și dezinformarea
Romania ranks last in the EU regarding digital skills, with a significant gap in media literacy and critical thinking. The Independent Journalism Center highlights the need for comprehensive media education to combat misinformation. Current government policies equate digital competence with basic computer use, neglecting critical evaluation of information sources. Only 27.73% of Romanians possess basic digital skills, far below the EU average. Trust in news is also low, with only 27% of Romanians expressing confidence in the information they consume. Media education is absent from key national strategies, raising concerns about national security vulnerabilities.
