Romania has recorded the largest decline in retail sales in the EU for July 2026, dropping by 5.7% compared to July 2025. In contrast, the EU average saw a 1% increase. Other countries like Germany, Italy, and Spain also experienced declines. Eurostat reported that retail sales in the eurozone decreased by 0.6% from June to July 2026, with non-food products falling by 1.4%. The overall trend indicates a reduction in consumer spending in Romania, with significant drops in all product categories compared to the previous year.
