Retail sales in the Eurozone and the EU increased in July 2026 compared to July 2025, but Romania experienced the largest decline in sales. Eurostat reported a 0.6% rise in Eurozone sales and a 1% increase in the EU. However, Romania saw a 5.7% drop in annual sales, alongside declines in Germany, Italy, and Spain. Month-on-month, retail sales fell by 0.6% in the Eurozone and 0.4% in the EU. Notably, Latvia, Cyprus, and Luxembourg recorded significant sales growth. In Romania, retail turnover decreased by 6.2% year-on-year, driven by declines in fuel, non-food, and food sales. However, there was a 7.0% increase in retail turnover compared to the previous month, mainly due to fuel and food sales growth.
