România amână închiderea termocentralelor de la Turceni și Craiova. Decizia luată de Guvern pe fondul crizei • Newsweek România

The Romanian government has decided to extend the operation of the Turceni and Craiova coal-fired power plants beyond the previously set closure date of August 31, 2026. This decision comes amid severe hydrological deficits on the Danube, high temperature forecasts, and increased peak electricity demand. The Craiova plants will now operate until the end of Q2 2027, while Turceni will continue until the end of Q1 2028. This extension aligns with Romania's commitments under the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), which initially aimed to decommission certain coal and lignite power capacities by 2026. The government cites potential risks of limited import capabilities during a regional energy crisis as a factor in this decision.
