Romania has been paying significant rent for its embassy and residence in Libya despite having no staff there for 12 years. The interim Foreign Minister, Oana Țoiu, revealed that an audit showed potential savings of over 5 million euros annually by addressing such issues. The country owns properties worth over 4 billion euros abroad, with 123 buildings and 77 plots. The decision to close the contracts in Libya was made after the audit findings, as the embassy has been unstaffed since 2014 due to security risks. Renovations in other locations like Washington and Brussels could also lead to cost savings.
